Salvadoran Pupusas

Ingredients:
Breading...
- 2 Cups Maseca
- 1/4 Tsp Salt
- 1/4 Tsp Garlic Powder
- 1.5 Cups Water
- 4 Tsp of AP Flour

- Spray Butter & Olive Oil for Frying

Inside Breading...
- 1 Cup Cooked & Seasoned Pork, Chicken or Beef
- 1/2 Cup Real Bacon Pieces
- 1 Cup Mozzarella Cheese
- 1/2 Tsp Red Pepper Flakes
- 1 Tablespoon Sliced Onion  (optional)
- 1 Tablespoon Sliced Jalepeno  (optional)
- 1/2 Cup Refried Beans (optional)

*I would recommend original fresh ingredients, but onions and jalepenos can be replaced with onion powder and pepper spices.

Instructions:
Place all dry ingredients (but the flour) for the breading in bowl and mix together evenly. Then pour water in and stir until thickened. With your hands roll into 4 evenly sized dough balls and place on parchment paper. Lightly sprinkle /coat 1 teaspoon of flour on each ball. Let stir for 5-10 minutes.
While you're waiting, gather all the ingredients for inside of the patties and divide each item into fourths.
Then flatten out breading dough balls as thin as you can. If dough is still a little wet, sprinkle more flour as needed. Place one fourth of ingredients onto flattened dough balls. Put the cheese on top as the last ingredient. After all ingredients are added, roll dough and ingredients back into balls keeping the ingredients in the inside as much as possible. After rolled, flatten each pupusa one more time but not as thin.
Pour a little olive oil into frying pan, spray each pepusa with spray butter and place all four Pupusas in it. Cook both sides until they become golden and ready to serve.

Makes:
4 burger sized pupusas.

Serve With:
Salsa, sour cream, queso, or red sauce.
